The time and care taken to explain the software and its features was much appreciated at the highest level within Hubbards. “As directors, we need to give the company what it needs to operate, but we must be confident that the steps we’re being encouraged to take are the right ones,” notes chairman Mark Hubbard. “Onyx’s presentations were professional and informative, and they spent a great deal of time introducing the product to our staff. We were all very impressed.”
“Right at the beginning, Onyx took away copies of all the documents we were using for analysis,” recalls managing director Tony Hubbard. “At that stage, we hadn’t even committed to a purchase.”
It didn’t take long for Hubbards to reach an investment decision. “We soon saw that we were getting something we needed, at a competitive cost,” says Mark.
“For the benefits we hoped to realise, the general consensus was that it wasn’t a massive investment,” agrees Tony.
Enhanced visibility
The first key benefit of Dimensions is financial information updated in real time, or near-real time. This live, fluid data provides clear visibility of cost overruns in time for managers to respond, so profit margins can be preserved.
“Dimensions has given us a structured data format that we couldn’t achieve before,” says Mark Hubbard. “We now have a much better, real-time vision of what’s going on in the business. What we call our ‘project intelligence’, provided by the Contract Intelligence module, is greatly improved, as we can see what we’re spending against budgets and gauge our strengths and weaknesses in terms of estimating. We can also see which clients will pay a premium for specific types of product, which is critical.”
